Artist/Single: One Way – “Would You Be”
Release Date: March 21, 2013
Following up the highly acclaimed ‘Rainy Days‘ full-length album can’t be an easy task, and with an ever changing music landscape, R’n’B trio One Way has its work cut out for them if they want to regain momentum as a serious presence in the realm of Korean music (aside from the fact that they’re producing it). Their latest release “Would You Be” is not the catalyst to that.
The song, a standard and basic R’n’B mid-tempo, is what One Way sounds like at their safest. There’s a lushness missing that is present in some of their more tantalizing singles, like “Magic” and “Rainy Days“, and while I don’t want to lay the burden on Peter and Young Sky for Chance‘s absence in this song, it is worth mentioning that the lack there of is noticeable.
Releasing a song as One Way, there was anticipation for a full-fledged trio performance, so to only hear two voices without Chance, whose timbre is one of the essential qualities in One Way’s music, was a major let down. Add to that the unmemorable aspect of “Would You Be”, and you’ve got a pretty average filler track that everyone’s heard before.
